Magazine Covers AND Movie Posters?!

I feel like I've just left Kings Dominion (which is a theme park in central VA). That was the only place you could have your face placed on the cover of a magazine when I was growing up. I can't believe you can make your own now! I know that the white font isn't best for the picture, but I was too lazy to go back and fix it. :) This is just a pic I grabbed from Flickr. I was thinking how perfect this could be for Social Studies. The kids could create a magazine to represent an appropriate time period. I like the way they would have to think about the big picture in terms of the vocabulary they would use and even when considering the cost (that part got cut off when I snipped the picture).

Of course, many uses for books pop into my mind, too. I was thinking that kids could isolate a character and devote a cover to them. The headlines could be about key events in the book, in addition to references to the traits of the character. I picture it to look a bit like a Soap Opera's Digest. This Big Huge Labs site is so much fun!

  1. Another great blog, Jaclyn. YOu have so many good ways to stretch the tools and my mind. I can't wait to work together on this stuff next year. Look forward to reading some more of your insightful comments.

  2. Jaclyn,
After reading about your magazine idea, I thought about this tool that would allow your kids to take it a step further.
